About

Christine Gates is an Australian photographic artist, printmaker and writer living in Melbourne, Australia. She trained at the University of NSW College of Fine Arts, where she received a Master of Fine Arts in 2005. She has worked as an exhibiting artist, writer and educator for the last 30 years.

In 2016 Christine will begin an artist residency, followed by an exhibition, at the Museo Galileo in Florence.

Recently, she has been working on a research project, with the support of the Musée des Arts et Métiers in Paris, that examines connections between cultures through developments in science and exploration. This project continues themes explored as artist-in-residence at the South Australian Museum and exhibited there and at the Museo del Pueblo de Guanajuato in Mexico.

In spare moments, Christine Gates wanders the globe, photographing people and places. She works with digital equipment, and collects old analogue cameras when she comes across them.
